SHERBURNE: Margaret May Smith Sherwood, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2021. At the age of 91, she passed with her family by her side.
Margaret “Maggie” was born on August 9, 1929 at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, a daughter of Charles and Hazel Hull Smith. Margaret attended Sherburne school. After that, she worked at the Bluebird Restaurant, TACO, Chesebrough Ponds and Colgate University, from which she retired in 1994. On August 31, 1947, she married Claude Sherwood who predeceased her in 2001. They had 54 loving years together. Claude and Maggie raised five children, Laura (Steve) Eaton, Larry (Melida) Sherwood, Wayne (Jenn) Sherwood, Sharon (Butch) Enslow and Shelly (Russell) Solloway. She had 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, and her feline furbaby loverboy.
Maggie loved to travel, was a member of the Willa Wanna Riding Club, Del-se-Nango fiddlers club, loved playing cards at the Senior Center, and was loved by all. Maggie was always willing to help others and was a good-hearted friend to everyone.
There will be a celebration of her life held in the spring.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
