Obituary

Herman Harry Krause, 93, of Skaneateles Turnpike, Brookfield, NY, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Waterville Residential Care Center.
He was born February 19, 1925 in Oneonta, son of Herman and Christine Nittmann Krause and was a graduate of Otego High School. He attended Cornell University for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in June 1943. He went to Quartermaster school in Bainbridge, MD, and to submarine school in New London, CT before serving on the USS Seagull, where he served until 1946. Harry had worked for the Delaware & Hudson railroad at one time, and then for the Bendix Corporation in Sidney and Utica, retiring after 33 years of service. He met his future wife, Janet Steere at the roller-skating rink in Sidney and, three months later, they were married on September 6, 1952 in Guilford. They lived in Bridgewater from 1952 to 1956, then bought their home in Brookfield. Harry and Janet raised their four children, and also cared for 46 foster children. Harry was a devoted husband and father. He was one of God’s greatest blessings to his family.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Janet; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kris and Cheryl Krause, John and Amy Krause; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Calcara, Mary Ann and Mark Rogers; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Theresa Tedesco, Vida Iverson, Dorothy and Leo Pontes; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Smith; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mildred Ackel and Shirley Krause; and brothers-in-law, John “Dick” Steere, Carl Smith and Jack Tedesco.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 4pm Friday, December 14, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Brookfield.
Friends are invited to call at the Church on Friday from 2-4pm prior to the service.
Interment will be in the South Brookfield Cemetery in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Brookfield Fire Department, PO Box 78, Brookfield, NY 13314 or First Baptist Church of Brookfield, PO Box 6, Brookfield, NY 13314
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, NY.
